Tekniker and Oma Painted Forest and Guernika

on

We started off our day by visiting the company Tekniker. Tekniker was a really interesting company to visit because of the wide range technologies they work on and manufacture. The company headquarters are in one massive building perched on the top of a hill. The views while driving up the hill were beautiful. I definitely wouldn’t mind looking at that view while working. We got to tour all of the different areas of the facility. We started off with lectures from two staff members discussing what the company does, their projects, and internship programs. One major part of the Tekniker company is to support and invest in startups. They provide the facilities and manufacturing spaces for the startups, helping them to grow and develop until they move into their own facilities. This is one of the reasons there are such a wide range of projects Tekniker has worked on. They mentioned everything from aeronautics, to medical devices, to automotive technology. I think it would be a really cool company to intern or work at because there’s such a wide range of products you have the opportunity to work on.

Later that afternoon we headed to the Painted Forest. While we were not prepared for the muddy and steep hike, it was interesting to see. We hiked up the muddy and slippery hill, (with only a couple people slipping and falling), and reached a forest where some of the trees were painted. If you stood in a specific spot, the paintings on the trees lined up to form a larger painting. It was an interesting and creative concept.

We then visited Guernika, the site of extensive bombing during the Spanish Civil War. Only a couple homes and buildings were left unscathed. It was really moving and emotional to see how destroyed the town was. I think it is really important we learn about this history, so we don’t repeat it.

Overall it was a great second to last day in Bilbao.
