Today we had a day packed with company visits. To start the day, we got to see a company called Titan. Titan is a cement company. We visited one of their 3 plants, where we learned about the steps that go into making concrete. It starts at the quarry where they collect limestone and other materials. They bring these materials to the plant, where they are heated up to 1500 degrees Celsius and turned into clinker. They also mentioned using more sustainable fuels and eventually using the excess heat they give of to create power.
After this visit, we went to the Athens airport. Here, we got to see their control room and their vast push for sustainability. They have a huge field of solar panels that powers the entire airport, their fully electric vehicle fleet, and many more. We also saw what goes into safety and overseeing control of the airport.
What these company visits showed me is that I can help others by making sure I am sustainable throughout my career. Keeping this in mind will benefit the planet and everyone on it.
