This is a picture from the Koutoubia Mosque (on the right), which we visited first today. The pillars on the left are actually from the original mosque, which was destroyed over debate that it was not positioned correctly towards Mecca. I found it really interesting that this “mistake” was left as a reminder next to the new one, showing how serious religion is in Morocco.
After our tour of Koutoubia Mosque, we headed to Baia Palace. I was amazed by all the intricate tile work inside and on the ceilings. Our tour guide was explaining how much of the tile came from Morocco (from cities like Fes) which I also found really amazing.
After lunch we had free time to explore the medina of Marrakesh! I ended up buying this Moroccan Amlou with Almonds (reminds me of Nutella but with more of a pistachio flavor if that makes sense!) The shop owner was very friendly and overall, it was a very nice experience!
After exploring a bunch of the more crowded streets of the medina I found some much quieter ones (like this one!!) selling more homemade products which I really enjoyed! It was amazing to see how much variety there was in one place!
