Today, we went back to Seoul City Hall but instead of going on a tour through the building like last time we went to the basement, to what looked like a top secret government facility. After going through extremely thick doors because apparently this area also doubles as a bomb shelter, we watched a video about TOPIS, which is Korea’s traffic control system. Put simply, it’s a whole bunch of smart systems that work with cameras and sensors all around to enfore traffic laws. For example, if someone speeds or does something else dangerous or illegal in a car, they will automatically be warned or penalized with attatched video evidence. Personally, I don’t know how I feel about this because there are lots of privacy concerns, but I think that it is very cool that something this large scale is possible. Also, the system can keep track of how many cars are where, and adjust GPS routes or traffic light times to help with the flow of traffic. I thought this was very interesting and would actually be interested in working with systems similar to this in my career. They also have full websites of statistics and information about TOPIS that I would recommend checking out. Other than that, there were also some teams watching the news and monitoring worldwide events, which I can only assume is government related.
After visiting TOPIS, we got snacks off the street and were given some final time to complete and prepare our final presentations. I pretty much just reread my slides about a hundred times just to make sure I knew what I wanted to say. Overall, the presentations went well and I enjoyed watching everyone’s videos and seeing all of the memories that I and others have made on this trip. To end the trip, we had a Korean cooking class which I had never done before and I had way more fun than I expected to.
