Today, we were able to walk around the rainforest, cross the bridges, kayak on the lake, and visit a sugarcane plantation. These were all very fun activities and made me also learn a little bit more about Costa Rica. During the rainforest in the morning, it started raining here and there, and that affected our experience. We had to walk with more caution because there were a lot of steps in the rainforest. Some of our focus was on our own safety instead of trying to spot out animals for the scavenger hunt. The rain made our vision a little bit more blurry, too, making it harder for us to see. On the other hand, the rain made some animals come out more, meaning they were easier to spot. During the kayak, the rain made the experience a lot better in my opinion. I thought it was very refreshing to get hit by the rain while trying to maneuver the paddleboard. It also had us work a little bit harder, adding the wind with the rain, which made it so much more fun in my opinion. For me, the rain didn’t affect my personal experience at all at the Sugar Cane since we were covered by a ceiling a lot of the time.

When companies and farmers plan for the slower season, in my opinion, they accommodate what is more beneficial for them. I don’t know a specific example for this, but when it’s during the rainy season in Costa Rica, a lot of the tourism industry can take a hit. Companies might try to adjust to this by switching to more indoor things rather than being outdoors and getting hit by the rain. When companies aren’t able to adjust to the slower seasons, they face a lot of negative effects in their business and outside of it. The best companies can adjust and plan ahead for different seasons, whether that be a successful season or a slower season.
