On day six, we had a lot of free time to wander around Augsburg before we had a guest talk at the University of Augsburg. Might I add, this was the first night I got a full night’s rest, so I was ready to conquer the day!
We went to Schaezlerpalais, a 18th century mansion located in the center of the city of Augsburg. This mansion is now used as an art museum. Almost all of the Plus3 students and myself spent a while walking around enjoying the artwork. Throughout this entire trip I am amazed by the quality that goes into the artwork I have been lucky to see. I found it interesting being in the Schaezlerpalais due to the fact that I often see more modern art when I visit museums in my local area at home. Obviously, there is traditional art work there but there is always something modern nearby. Being at this mansion was like stepping into a time capsule! I was the most impressed by the last room, a large Rococo style ballroom painted from the ground up with details such as each corner having animals from different regions of the world, mirrors lining the walls that represented each star sign/birthdate, and the center of the ceiling holding a detailed mural of more animals.
After our museum stop, it was time to make our way back over to the campus. My group members and I spent some time getting work done and then decided to head to lunch.
I couldn’t have expected the sites I would see this day! One of my industry analysis group members, Katharina, took me and some of the other Americans around Augsburg to show us some more local parts of the city. Seeing the local parts of the city made the whole trip seem more real. The part that stood out to me was the Augsburg Cathedral. This cathedral stands near the center of the city and was another great example of timeless art!
Overall today was a day of artwork appreciation for me, allowing me to genuinely gain a deeper appreciation for all the artwork that Augsburg has to offer!
