Into the Lungs of Planet Earth

The next leg of our journey took us deeper into the Amazon as we traveled to the Waroni tribe. The trip involved a two-hour bus ride to the airport, followed by another six hours traveling down the river by canoe. It was incredible being so far removed from civilization and fully surrounded by nature. Along the way, we passed small villages hidden among the trees and watched daily life unfold along the riverbanks. I loved taking photos of all the birds we saw as we traveled farther and farther into the jungle.

Even though the canoe was tiny, I still enjoyed the ride, playing games with friends, talking about life and the trip, and just taking in the scenery around us. The best part was spotting monkeys swinging through the trees along the river, and of course, stopping for lunch on a beach in the middle of nowhere. We’ve now arrived at the tribe, and I’m looking forward to learning more about their culture, history, and daily way of life as we spend time with them here.

Until next time,
Matt Hay
