This day started out very early, 5:15 in the morning early for me. There was a redeeming factor though, breakfast was out a little early, so I did get to enjoy that. Today we were going to Aumovio and Regensburg. Unlike MAN, I actually did have an interest for this one because I was a part of the Aumovio group. So, we got on the bus and hit the road.
Upon arrival, I was already very intrigued, we got these cool little badges and began our walk over to start the discussion. This discussion was unlike the other ones. It did not go deep on things like the history, the current environment, or specific numbers. Instead, it focused on production and production only. We talked about the various product lines and the place they hold at Aumovio. We basically did a virtual tour of the factory before starting the actual tour.
To begin the tour, we put these covers over our shoes and wore protective jackets. One thing that is interesting is that the jackets say Continental-the parent brand that Aumovio spun-off from. This tour was honestly super interesting; the factory was unlike any other one we saw. There were no big parts and machines carrying multiple tons of weight. Instead, it was a bunch of medium sized machines working together in lines to produce these very small individual parts that would later be used to assemble a finished product. It was definitely a different vibe than something like BMW.
We ended the day in Regensburg. We had some free time, and I went to the same burger chain that we went to in Munich, it was very good. After that, I got a coffee and walked around with whatever group I had joined. Once our free time was over, we had a tour of the city hall, the architecture inside was amazing and it has been preserved perfectly. Of course, one of the most interesting parts was the holding cells and torture chamber.
All in all, Aumovio and Regensburg did not disappoint. I was able to gain a lot of knowledge that will be useful for my presentation, and it is always good exploring a new city like Regensburg.
