Day 11: Business Students in Lab Coats

Today we headed to Aumovio, an automotive tech company that specializes in smaller circuit parts for automobiles. First, we got a presentation that gave insight into the specific parts Aumovio manufacturers and the need for these parts. We got a chance to pass around some of the intricate circuit boards that are produced here. Before walking through the factory itself, we had to get suited up in lab coats and shoe coverings to reduce risk of electric shock and make sure we were not contaminating the area. Before even entering the facilities, we had to step on some sort of scale to ensure we were wearing everything correctly.

When walking through the factory, it was quite literally the opposite of everything we have seen so far. I felt like I was in some sort of simulation, everything was sterile and white and there were many different stations that all looked pretty similar. I noticed at each station there was a green or red light coming from the machine, this is to show the status of the production. There were not many employees on the floor because I noticed machines and robots doing everything, hwoevre if the light turns red that indicates that a human must come over for a manual assist or check. I also noticed a lot more women working, compared to the other companies we have visited. I felt like I was seeing a glimpse of the future when walking through this facility, and it made me wonder how much more Aumovio can progress in regards to automation since it is already so ahead.

We headed into Regensburg for the afternoon and this immediately became my favorite city we have visited so far. Just walking across the bridge and seeing the outskirts of the city, the colorful buildings and pathways along the water were so beautiful. As recommended by Dr. Feick, we went to the bratwurst stand along the river and it was definitely the best one I’ve had so far. I have been looking for the perfect souvenir and we stumbled upon a super cool leather shop, I got a wallet and was able to engrave my initials on it myself! One of the coolest parts of today was the guided tour of Altes Rathaus where we were able to learn more about the city’s history and see the torture chambers…

First, we saw some of the mechanisms used for public humiliation and learned about the differences between men and women’s’ punishments. Then, we were taken down to the confession rooms where there were different contraptions used to get individuals to confess their crimes. I’ll spare you some of the details, but these methods were vulgar and I was flinching just thinking about it.

Overall, I really enjoyed today! Aumovio surprised me with how futuristic the facilities are and how rapid the production of these parts are. Regensburg was beautiful and weather wise, this may have been one of our best days yet!
