It was time to go homeeeeeee. This was a sad day, but also a day I was looking forward to. I loved Germany more than words can describe. I learned so much about a different culture. From the roots of how it was built, to the people who left an impact, and so much more. I made friends that I will talk to forever and memories that will never go away. But part of me was happy to go home and see my friends and family.
If I could bring certain aspects of Germany to America, the list could go on forever, but I’m going to give you the few I think are the best. The first thing I loved about Germany and will miss so much was the food. The first night we arrived, we had dinner at an Italian restaurant. When the plate came out, I thought the portions were so tiny. But when you eat the food, your body tells you the exact opposite. The food is so fresh and natural, which makes it taste so much better. I’ve never been a fan of croissants, but I made sure that every morning I had one. And omg I won’t even speak on the sausage.
The other thing I would love for us to implement is the sense of community. In America, it seems as though everyone has their own culture depending on your neighborhod. I understand this is due to the size of America, but sometimes it feels as though we aren’t connected. When you walk the streets and talk to the people, you can feel the connection. One of the other things I loved personally was the fashion. Everyone dresses nicely, no matter the occasion. It makes you want to dress better most of the time. They live by the saying “look good, play good”. It inspired me so much that I had to go and buy clothes just to remember their fashion. One of the major distinctions between America and Germany. They have learned their history and used that to shape the future. In America, we all know about the events, but when you really sit there and analyze our country. We haven’t really progressed; we’ve just found ways to convert the same tactics but through modern ideas. If America could truly come together and learn, I think there is so much room for growth. We’re a country who was founded on anyone being able to be here, but it doesn’t feel like that. In Germany people are all from different areas and you’d never know that unless you asked or your eye noticed it. They all seem to just be German.
But at the same time, I love America. Little things we take for granted like a public restroom being free, not having to pay for tap water, and most importantly the freedom of speech!!! I believe America has a lot to change but there will also never be another country like ours.
