Day 13: The Hills Are Alive

The second I found out I was going to Germany I started researching fun places to go while we were there! As I mentioned in previous blog posts, I had the opportunity to go on this trip with my roommate from Pitt, Carly. We spent so much time checking out places to go and seeing where previous students went as well.

On our free day we decided to take a train to Salzburg, Austria with the rest of our group, and then branch off and go to Werfen, Austria to take a hike that brings you to the hills where they filmed the Sound of Music.

I was drawn to this location since the Sound of Music is one of my favorite movies! My dad and I watched it when I was younger and it always brings great memories for me. Me, Carly, and a few other friends of mine made our way to the hike location. The funny thing is, I found this hike location on TikTok and was under the impression that this hike would be short and easy! I was wrong. We started walking and about 10 minutes into the walk, the incline was hitting us.

We were all sweating by the end of it and laughing about how the difficulty of the hike was nothing like I was expecting! Either way it ended up being a great story and something we can laugh about now. Once we made it to the top, the view was beautiful. It was so surreal seeing the location where the Sound of Music was filmed.

Overall, it was so fun seeing Salzburg and Werfen! I loved navigating the transportation system with my friends and getting to see such cool places on the free day! This was my favorite day on the trip. This day made me want to travel more and gave me a greater appreciation for seeing new places!
