Hi everyone! I’m Emily Zuris, a freshman bioengineer in the Swanson School of Engineering. I also plan on minoring in computer science and neuroscience. I’m from Rochester, New York and at home I live with my mom, dad, sister, and dog (guess who I miss the most- just kidding!). My family has always been big on travel, and one of my goals is to be able to see as much of the world as I can.
I’m beyond excited to go to Vietnam in just a few weeks! I knew I wanted to study abroad during my time at the University of Pittsburgh, but I never imagined getting the opportunity to go anywhere like Vietnam. This seemed like the obvious choice for me because I knew it was unlikely that I would ever go there by myself or with family.
In Vietnam, I hope to experience new things, push myself, and learn about a new culture! I’ve traveled to Canada, Mexico, Spain, and soon Ireland, and I love seeing the world from another perspective and learning through experiences rather than classes. I also am interested in the possibility of living and working abroad, so I’m interested in seeing the similarities and differences between Vietnamese and American working and living environments.
This trip is going to be nerve-wracking and different, but more importantly, exciting and enriching. I can’t wait to explore Vietnam, meet new people, try new foods, and make new memories!
