Ready to take on Italy!

imageHi everyone! My name is Dana Emswiler and I am an industrial engineering student in the Swanson School of Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. I am also pursuing a certificate in supply chain management. I am extremely active in the Society of Women Engineers. I am currently serving in the Corporate Relations officer position while also co-chairing the Women in STEM Conference. I also am a member of the Outside the Classroom Curriculum (OCC) honorary society. This past semester, I was grateful to serve as a Brand Ambassador and now I am honored to have been selected for an Executive Board position as the Director of Community Outreach.
Last summer, I had the opportunity to intern at Lehigh Valley Technical Associates, a civil and structural engineering consulting firm. This upcoming summer, I will be engaging in a manufacturing experience at Lutron. Additionally, I will spend a week back in Pittsburgh as a counselor in Pitt’s Bridge: College Prep and Leadership Academy. I love to spend time with my family: my parents and older brother. We are all loyal Eagles fans so in my free time, I enjoy cheering on the Eagles. I also like to shop, travel, exercise, and volunteer.
I am especially thrilled and honored to have been selected for the Plus3 Italy program. I have chosen the Plus3 program because I am interested in learning more about real-world applications of both engineering and business. I hope to learn more about the fashion and textile industry and widen my global knowledge. I am excited to visit Italy because of its incredible culture and global influence – specifically in the fashion world. I am nervous about traveling abroad in general because I endure health issues associated with my stomach disease, Gastroparesis so I am anxious to handle that obstacle. Overall, though, I look forward to having a blast in Italy!
