Hello! My name is Nathan Baxter. I am originally from Lansdale, PA, and I am a rising sophomore studying chemical engineering at the Swanson School of Engineering. Outside of the classroom I enjoy playing sports, especially soccer and ping pong, as well as hanging with friends.
I believe that the Plus3 program at Pitt is an excellent opportunity for students to hone academic and cultural skills. Being in a foreign country such as China tests one’s abilities to adapt to a new environment while maintaining a high academic level. Learning another country’s style of engineering and business is also a learning experience that is hard to come by. In addition to aid outside of school, students also receive a 3 credit bonus upon completion of this course. For these reasons, I chose the Plus3 program. Personally, however, it has been a long-term goal of mine to visit China. This program gives me the opportunity to fulfill this dream of mine far before I could’ve hoped to.
It is ironic that the thing that excites me the most, is also what frightens me the most. That thing is the culture shock. As I said before, I’ve always wanted to be in China, and now that it’s a reality. I will be presented with a surplus of new opportunities, and I can’t wait to see what I can do with them!
