VeNICE!

This morning started off well with a huge spread of breakfast items at our new hotel. After multiple pasties and lots of fruit, we all gathered in the lobby to depart for Venice. I know that a lot of us have been looking forward to this day, so we were rather eager to get the day started. The journey to Venice went quite smoothly and it was only a little hour by train until we arrived.
Upon arrival, the beautiful sites fulfilled all of our expectations. They really don’t have cars there, because of all the water, so we reached our destination via water taxi. Our first adventure was to go on a gondola ride, which is quintessential Venice. The gondola driver was amazing and he was able to maneuver the boat so well in the narrow canals.
Post gondola ride, we had the a few hours for lunch. We found a nice place off of the main center that had delicious troffi pasta with pesto. Of course gelato followed the meal, as it usually does here in Italy.
The day then continued with a walking tour, where we started at St. Mark’s Basilica. We learned all about merchant industry and how Venice was so wealthy that they even had three colonies in Greece, including Cyprus. I thought this was interesting because Venice is so small, yet so powerful.
Once the walking tour ended, we had time to further explore Venice and eat dinner. We were in the mood for pizza tonight, so that is what we got to eat. Our final hours in Venice were spent shopping around and both Liv and Lex got their dead skin eaten by fish, while Meredith and watched. Now, it is time to return back to Verona for our second to last night there!
