Plus3 & Me: Beckie!

Hello! I am so excited to introduce myself to you all! My name is Beckie Beckford (they/she) and I am from Rahway, New Jersey (central Jersey does exist!). I am a rising sophomore student at the University of Pittsburgh majoring in Nursing and pursuing a minor in Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies. On campus I am an active member of Club Gymnastics, Nursing Student Association, Student Government Board, and Black Action Society (just to name a few). Outside of school, I can typically be found cuddling my cat Naomi, playing video games, and video editing!

With my current academic track, I hope to complete my Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing, then continue on to a Master’s degree in order to become a Women’s Healthcare Nurse Practitioner. My goal is to work specifically with patients in underserved and marginalized communities.

I am honored to be able to participate in the Plus3 UK program this May! The goal of our program is to look at the intersections of education and healthcare and the way they affect different socioeconomic groups. My interests have always been in studying health disparities between different groups, and I feel that the work of intersectionality ties directly into studying these impacts. Professionally, I hope to learn different and effective methods of nursing that I can apply to my own practices, and personally, I am very excited to travel internationally. Exploring British culture, visiting a new country, and meeting new people are all things that I look forward to greatly!
