Lexis… Meet Ireland :)

The journey to Ireland starts here! Hello everyone, my name is Lexis Wright! I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, living only 10 minutes away from campus. I’m a current junior studying marketing with a certificate in Leadership and Ethics. Thus far, I’ve found myself personally, academically, and professionally in ways that I couldn’t have imagined during my time at Pitt.

Having attended a performing arts middle school and high school, creativity has played an influential role in dictating my career path. As a freshman, I was set on my academic path centered around Marketing and Supply Chain. After speaking with my siblings and a few mentors, I decided that Marketing was a good option for me to major in. After arriving on campus and getting acclimated with Pitt Business, I stumped upon the importance of supply chain and thought it would complement my major in marketing. While I loved marketing, I realized that majoring in supply chain didn’t align with my passions. That then sparked an interest in majoring in Human Resources. Needless to say, after taking an HR class, I found myself returning to majoring in marketing and pursuing a certificate in leadership and ethics.

Leadership and DEI efforts are two things that are very important to me. A series of individuals and organizations here on campus have aided me in my professional and personal development. An organization that has played a prominent role in my time here at Pitt is The Roberto Clemente Minority Business Association ( RCMBA). Other than being a part of the CPLE program, RCMBA has indeed allowed me to find myself as a leader here at Pitt. Being around like-minded individuals and immersed in such a supportive community in the organization has allowed me to grow in ways that I have yet to fathom.

With this program kicking off my senior year, I’m excited to see the rest that the University of Pittsburgh has in store for me!

“From the classroom, to the City, to the World” is a phrase all too familiar to PittBusiness. As a junior,I have developed the skills and lessons that I have learned in the classroom and have brought them to the city. In my previous internship, I got the opportunity to understand how to conduct business in five different locations within Pittsburgh and surrounding areas. I used the knowledge learned from my marketing and leadership classes and applied them to assist in the evaluation of the schematics of several ALDI store locations.   I learned how to be a better leader in the real world environment by directing and guiding five store managers to improve employee morale and customer sales. While I have had many amazing experiences in the classroom and the city, I am ready to experience the world.

In my future career field, I will be working with individuals from many different cultural backgrounds and ethnicities. I hope that studying abroad will prepare me with the values, skills, and behaviors to be successful in a diverse and interconnected  workforce. While this is only a two week program, Plus3 will give me the opportunity to experience new perspectives of ways of business and culture beyond my own.Quite frankly, even at the University of Pittsburgh, I find myself seeking out others who have a similar ethnicity, history and cultural background as myself. Studying abroad will force me  to interact with others outside my comfort zone, ultimately allowing me to be a more multifaceted citizen and collaborative problem solver. I will achieve this goal of global competency through being open. While I am on a  site visit, company visit, or participating in a cultural activity I will be an active listener and engager. Accepting differences and listening to the knowledge that is offered, will allow me to take full advantage of what I learn and am exposed to.
