Hello, my name is Gavin Davidson I am a first-year bioengineering student. One of my professional goals is to be able to eventually design prosthetics. However, while I am here at Pitt I want to gain a wide variety of information. This can range from what I am studying academically within my math science and engineering courses to how to act professionally. By traveling to Cyprus, I hope to gain a stronger concept of how businesses are run and how professionals act in the workforce. Whether that be with how they communicate, work on projects, or talk to customers.
Outside of engineering, I am involved with Chi Alpha; a youth Christian program that helps college students grow in their faith and relationship with Christ. Additionally, over the winter I taught snowboarding lessons at my local ski resort. With this job, I learned how to deal with customers and how training programs work in the professional setting, as I was one of the few head trainers within our division. With any free time, I have I enjoy playing a variety of sports for fun with friends such as soccer, football basketball, and spike ball.
For my program, I chose to travel to Cyprus. To begin with I have never traveled overseas so this would be a new experience for me to see how other people live, how companies operated in other nations, and other cultural beliefs and morals. While I was in high school, I took Spanish as a language and I learned a lot about Spanish culture and traditions. So, traveling to Cyprus would introduce me to a whole other culture.
In addition to the culture and lifestyles of people in Cyprus, I will also be able to learn a lot about the shipping industry. I have never taken any business classes in my life, so by taking this course I will gain a strong understanding of the in-depth process that takes to manufacture and ship a product to consumers. This will help me in the future when I am considering how to design items in the future. Finally, from this course, I can take away an understanding of how intertwined the business and engineering fields. Overall, I am very excited about this upcoming experience and cannot wait to see how much I will learn.
