Arrival in Cyprus

After we departed from the airport in Frankfort, we had a four-hour flight that went by in a blink of an eye because I slept the entire flight. Upon arrival to Cyprus, we were shocked but happy to see that customs was empty, so we did not have to wait in a long line to make it into the country finally. To add to the excitement, our luggage made it despite my worries about it making all the transfers between the different planes.

After exiting the airport, we quickly stopped at the hotel before heading out to dinner. As a group, we headed toward the marina. On our way to the marina, we learned about some significant landmarks that will help us identify where the hotel is.

Once we got to the marina, we were allowed to split into groups to get our dinner. The group I was a part of chose to wander around the marina briefly before going to dinner. During our exploration, we could see all the architecture in the area. The architecture in Cyprus is unique. This is because the island has changed hands many times throughout history. The predominant architecture is that of the Byzantines and Greeks. However, many mosques can be seen throughout the city, showing the lasting effects of the Ottomans on Cypriot architecture.

After walking around, the group I was in headed the dinner. At dinner, I got a chance to try the Halloumi cheese; it was fantastic. Even though I was told about the large cat population in Cyprus, I figured they mostly stayed away from densely populated areas. I was, in fact, wrong. Throughout our entire dinner, multiple different cats approached our table. Some just walked by, while others sat down next to one of us, looking for food.
