First and most importantly: I did have my first real pint of Guinness last night! It certainly was not my favorite beer ever, but it was plesant for sipping. I would NOT reccomend chugging it on your way out the door. Not quite as plesant.

This morning we were off to Griffith College for a presentation by Ellie Doyle of Talenthub. Ellie is an expert on pairing individuals with companies and has a deep knowledge of what traits and competencies are most important in the workplace. For example, some of my strongest competencies are being highly communicative, a creative problem solver, and an active listener. These competencies will help me to engage with others as a member of a team well in the workplace, and would be attractive to an organization for that reason.

The most impactful thing Ellie shared was the concept of a personal brand, and the fact that your personal brand will define you both in the workplace and beyond. I have since done some reflection and begun to draft my own personal brand statement. “I am a person who cares strongly about bettering myself and those around me. I am currently doing so by expanding my education and taking in as much of the world as I can. It is my hope to continue this self growth thoughout my career and personal life, and make as positive of an impact on the world as I can.”

After the lecture at Griffith College we were off to attempt to navigate the Dublin bus system and find our way to Croke Park Stadium for a tour. In the tour we learned about the history of Hurling and Gaelic Football, and had the opportunity to see the stadium from every angle. Seeing the way these sports bring the communities of Ireland together is inspiring. Of course at home we have sports and lots of community engagement comes from this, but in Ireland the whole country focuses on these two sports, their communities practically revolve around them, and the games are representative of Irish spirit.
