Friday was another packed day. We headed to one of Cyprus’s large ports. We met with DP World and Eurogate. They each have a part in the part which is separated into many parts, for example oil and gas or shipping. We had a bus tour of the port and got the chance to watch them load a container as they were working. They picked up the container with a large machine and stacked it on a boat. It was a very aggressive stack, more than I was thinking. In my head this was a slow process where you slowly pick it up, and gently stack them on top of each other, slowly lowering the container down onto the other one. That was not the case. They picked up the container and it swung a bit. Then, when they went to stack it, they rocked the container hitting both elongated sides about twice until it clicked into place. I’m not sure why I thought it was be a slow stack, but now I know. I found it interesting.
After our visit, we headed back to the Old Port of Limassol where we got on a very large catamaran. SURPRISE!! This was such an amazing surprise, as I had previously thought we were not allowed to get on a boat for insurance purposes. The boat was stationary in the marina so that made things easier. We boarded the boat where we had lunch. I ate with Grace on the top deck overlooking the sea. After our lunch, the Limassol Port Manager boarded the boat and spoke to us about the operations and beliefs of the sea. It was fascinating to hear about their idea about the future not being green, as in green energy, but it being blue, referring to the sea. He emphasized the imPORTance (haha) of the ocean and we need to think of it first when making decisions. I really found that interesting.
After the day was finished, I got ready for dinner, and wore a dress I bought in Cyprus and we headed to dinner. I ordered Lamb Kleftiko and it was delicious. Another awesome day!
