Day 7: A Day Trip to Munich

After finishing up with our company visits yesterday, today was the first day to truly be tourists and go exploring. So this morning we hopped on a train and headed to Munich for the day. As soon as I stepped on the train, I could tell it was way better than any train I have been on in the United States, especially NJ Transit trains which are the ones I use a good amount.

Once we got into the train station in Munich, we walked into the middle of the city to the square where the town hall was located. We met a tour guide here and began a walking tour around Munich.

The tour took about two hours, but our tour guide was so knowledgeable about the city of Munich and the history behind it. She took us to so many amazing spots, two of which are show below. My favorite one was in the huge garden. After walking around in a city with little greenery, it was super refreshing taking a brief walk through the garden.

After our tour throughout the city, we had a few hours to walk around and do what we wanted. So of course the first thing we did was go and get some food from a square with a bunch of food vendors. I decided that I wanted to get some bratwurst and I was supper happy with that decision because it was so good.

After we were all full, we decided we wanted to walk up to the top of a clock tower. Even though we had to walk a few hundred steps to get to the top, the view was totally worth it. We could see for miles, and even saw the BMW headquarters which is on the outskirts of the city. Usually when it’s nice out, we would have been able to see the alps from up there. Unfortunately though, it was super cloudy and we weren’t able to see them. Nonetheless, doing this was amazing and definitely my favorite thing we did today.

After walking around for a little while after the clock tower, we spotted a Chinese group doing mediation and decided to give it a try. Surprisingly, it was super peaceful even with all the people walking around in the city.

Finally, it was time to eat dinner and we all went to a burger place as a group. I got a burger with bacon, mushrooms, and caramelized onions. It was some of the better food we have had this trip which made me really happy. We all had a great time!

Tomorrow we will being visiting Dachau, a concentration camp from WWII. This is probably going to be a hard trip but it’ll definitely be worth it.
