Going Back To The Roots

This morning’s adventure was to the EPIC Irish Immigration Museum. It is a very unique museum that’s so jam packed with new information on the inside that it would take a day or two just to read through everything and to learn everything that was inside of them. The EPIC museum was a self-guided format, which enabled you to take your time or go quickly through each section depending on your liking.

I personally really enjoyed the museum.  The way that the museum tour worked is that it was made-up with a few different sections.  For example, one of the rooms new museum was on conflict which was the 6th room of the tour, and towards the end of the tour in the 17th room it was all about storytelling. Dr. Kelly and our other tour guides from previous adventures had done an amazing job in giving us the background in the Irish history in a chronological order. Much of what they had taught us in that I have summarized in previous blog posts was word for word straight from this museum. Although, with the high-level detail that’s available in this museum, if you took the time, you could learn the specific details of each event from Irish history in much more depth.

My favorite part of the museum was room 11 which was the discovering and inventing room. It had visual interactive displays for you to stand there and so again many of the transcendent, innovative, and groundbreaking discoveries that people with Irish descent have made.  It was really cool to me that they mentioned many pivotal people that are so important to many other parts of the world developing in other countries histories in this museum.

There has been a large amount of immigration that happened through the Irish getting higher level degrees. This has led to the Irish outsourcing for higher paying work and better opportunities, leaving this museum to allow for a visualization of how extremely important Irish history is. Also, how exciting it is that they’re able to celebrate it today as the this is a booming country and things have turned around for Ireland.
