Personal Introduction
Hi! My name is Lillie Heise and I am from Oil City, Pennsylvania. Currently, I am a freshman at the University of Pittsburgh and I am pursuing my bachelors of science in nursing. I also recently decided to pursue the global health certificate provided here at Pitt. I am a member of the Nursing Student Association (NSA) and am very interested in psychiatric nursing. In my free time I enjoy exercising, dancing, thrifting, hiking, kayaking, skiing, and spending time with family and friends.
Plus3 United Kingdom
This summer I am very excited to be attending the Plus 3 United Kingdom trip. Being a woman in the field of nursing, I am particularly drawn to exploring how healthcare and education systems differ across cultures which was why I chose this program. During this program we will get the opportunity of going to different hospitals and schools to explore and compare these systems to the United States. This program will provide me with the chance to observe and engage with diverse healthcare systems, gaining valuable insights into different approaches to nursing practices and improving these systems. It will broaden my perspectives on gender roles in the education and healthcare profession and how gender, race, and socioeconomic status affect the accesses to education and healthcare.
Also in this program we get the opportunity to work with Birmingham City University and its students to learn their approaches to healthcare and education, and how social determinants of health affect their lives in the UK. The United States and the United Kingdom have very similar issues within the healthcare and education systems and I think it will be very interesting to speak to the students, compare our knowledge, and work together to help create real change. Being able to engage with the staff and students of this program will help my growth as a student and future nurse.
