Introduction- Lucas Shannen

Hi, my name is Lucas Shannen. I am from Quakertown, PA, and I am currently a freshman studying Finance and Business Information Systems at the University of Pittsburgh. Outside of the classroom I am involved in Delta Sigma Pi, Panther Equity, Undergraduate Finance Club (UFC), and Club Cornhole. In my free time I like to go to the gym, read, fish, travel, and watch sports.

In high school, I played baseball and golf. I was involved in Best Buddies, where I was a Peer Buddy. I was a Checkout Coach at local food store, where I worked 30 hours a week, and also ran a landscaping side hustle.

This summer I will be traveling to the Netherlands through Pitt’s Plus 3 Program. I love traveling and I’m excited for this trip because I’ve never been abroad. I knew Plus 3 Netherlands would be the perfect opportunity to do that, and was a factor when I chose to come to Pitt. I am looking forward to experiencing a new country.

Academically, I want to learn about the rich history and culture of the Netherlands, especially all the tulips, in addition to worldwide business techniques. Professionally speaking, understanding sustainable business methods is crucial in today’s environment. With the health of the environment in mind, I think it is important to understand what the future holds for the environment and how companies can protect it. As someone also interested in Supply Chain I am interested to learn about concept to consumer. One day, I want to be able to navigate this industry with the knowledge I get from this trip.

I am incredibly appreciative of the chance to travel and study abroad, and I can’t wait to share more of my adventures on my blog.
