Personal Introduction

Hi ! My name is Maura Hill and I’m from Oxford, Pennsylvania. I am a freshman at the University of Pittsburgh and am actively pursing my BSN. I have recently decided to also try for my Global Health certificate through the nursing school as well. I am an active of the NSA chapter at Pitt and have traveled with the association to the SNAP convention in November of 2023. In my free time I enjoy hanging with my friends, playing volleyball, going to the beach, and exploring new places.

I am very much looking forward to our trip to the United Kingdom ! I am most interested in seeing the differences between the US health system and the UK health system. I want to take a deep dive into the mental health aspect and the resources that are available in both countries. I have a particular interest in this field and am excited to ask the students at the Birmingham University about their knowledge on this topic. I am also curious about the gender roles in a different country and how certain tasks are carried out. I know how our system works here and I would like to compare it to the work being done in the UK. I am excited to also share this experience with my other classmates, so that we can get the most out of this opportunity.

I am hoping to take the experience and information I learn from this trip into my clinical work in the upcoming semesters but also when I start to work after my graduation from the program. I think these are going to be important lessons and observations that can help my skills and ability to care for patients in the future. I want to be able to take the differences and improvements that I see in the UK and apply them to how I care for my patients. I also want to share the knowledge that I learn to my fellow nursing students, so we can all try and better our patients experiences.
