Today was our first official company visit. We visited the international and Korean based company of Eaton located south of Seoul. Eaton is a proud sponsor of the University of Pittsburgh. Currently they have helped fund a 200 ampere power cell located in Benedum Hall for the Swanson School of Engineering and remain close with the engineering program.
Our trip to Korea is based around smart systems and how they help consumers operate and Eaton is a perfect example of that. Eaton is a manufacturer of car parts, and their smart system is one that helps the car, and other automobiles operate safely and effectively for consumers. Some of the parts produced included fuel regulators, brake regulators, and other safety components that the operator can control, or the vehicle does automatically. These regulators will often make sure that the car is functioning properly and will alert and or fix the problem if one does arise.
Eaton works hand in hand with different car companies across Korea such as the locally based Hyundai and Kia car companies. These companies have asked Eaton to produce and design regulators that will work in their vehicles. Eaton is also based in Europe and the United States and also ships and produces their products there in addition to clients that live there.
Inside, we were given an extensive tour of the manufacturing plant and the processes that the company undergoes to get the products to their clients. We witnessed their 3D printers at work as well as the different employees using machinery to produce the products. The whole process revolves around details as seen with the use of an assembly line and the after inspection for defects on the products before they are placed into boxes. Only then can these boxes be shipped out to the various corners of South Korea and the world. With their smart systems implemented, driving cars and other automobiles has become safer as a result.
