Would you still be surprised if I told you that we had more company visits before our experience here ended? Well, you shouldn’t be, because we had two more today as we begin to finish things up. Our visits today were to Fredit (hy), and the Samsung Innovation Museum (SiM). For those unfamiliar with them I’ll give a brief overview. Fredit produces drinks that are especially popular here in Korea, and the Samsung Innovation Museum, as the name implies, is a museum that shows the evolution of not only Samsung, but technology in general.
Our day began at Fredit where for, surprisingly, the first time, we were required to change our shoes before entering the building. They had told us this may be common in Korea before our departure so I am surprised it took until near the end for us to be required to do it. Nevertheless, the tour of the facility was very interesting. The amount of high tech in such a small area (for a company) was surprising, and it was also cool to see the little vehicles they drive around to deliver their drinks. The one they had on display was even painted like Pikachu which I thought was silly (in a good way). Seeing the entire process for their making of Yakult was also fascinating, although it was an off day so we couldn’t see the machines actually in process. Fredit was also nice enough to give us a bag full of goodies for us to take home which is always a pleasure as I won’t say no to free stuff.
Samsung was also an amazing tour as like I said, it wasn’t only Samsung electronics, but all of them in general. Most of the tour consisted of us learning the history of, well, everything related to technology from the discovery of electricity to refrigerators that can play YouTube shorts. They had basically every Samsung technology on display for us to see and interact with across multiple floors. I think I even saw a few phones or TV’s that I have owned in the past as well which was kind of weird. Anyway, my only other comment here is that I think I will be investing in more Samsung products once I’m back home.
To leave the last part of my day brief, I couldn’t find a hand. Well, let me explain. For the second time of the trip, we were put out on a scavenger hunt. My group was doing really good, and we would’ve won… but we couldn’t find a hand. It was a handprint of a celebrity on a wall, but no matter how hard we looked, we just couldn’t seem to locate it. Even after asking around 17 locals, they couldn’t help us. So we had to give up in the end. However it’s the journey that matters right? That’s how my day ended, on a failed quest that only led me to 7-Eleven.
Only a few more days are left. I seriously can’t believe it. See you tomorrow for the next blog!
