Although concentration camps and WWII as a whole is a very somber and heavy topic, I was really looking forward to today’s tour at Dachau. Our tour guide was amazing at not only providing information about the history of the camp but also at walking me through the emotional side of things. The experience as a whole was chilling but fascinating at the same time. It was very crucial and one I will be sure share to those who ask me about my trip.
It was interesting to gain a German’s perspective on WWII on a personal level. Hearing him talk about his opinions was very humanizing and raw. It was interesting to find out that survivors to this day are still able to visit back and have the ability to break the emotional barrier of their past to revisit the camp.
After the morning we had time to ourselves in Augsburg. I visited the gym again, a grounding experience for me. It started to feel like home. After taking needed time to myself, the group met up with some of the German students to go to a food festival.
It was a fun way to all get together. We talked about the trip so far and what we are looking forward to doing. I am happy we all get along so well.
