Today was a packed day of site visits!
First, we went to Fredit, a company known for its yogurt and dairy products. We had a tour of the factory and saw the production line for the drinks. They grow the probiotics themselves and store them in large metal tanks, later mixing them into the yogurt drink. It was fascinating to learn how they make such a tasty and healthy product. And the cherry on top was the merch! They were kind enough to gift us a tote bag, samples, and a powdered drink.
Next was TXE Elevators, and going in, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But I can tell you—I didn’t think it would be so hands-on. First, we saw the staff recreation room, which had a golf simulator, ping pong, and pool. At one point, everyone was playing something, and I kind of forgot we were on a tour.
Later, we participated in some safety experiments. Personally, I fell through a trapdoor into a pool of foam blocks to demonstrate how they prevent injuries from falls. I learned that only 2% of elevator-related deaths are due to falling, which was much lower than I expected. Then, to test the harnesses, others were strapped in and raised above the ground. They fell just 15 cm, but that small drop exerted pressure equal to 10% of their body weight—enough to make quite an impact. This was to show how to correctly adjust a harness for safe operation.
Lastly, we went up one of their largest elevator shafts to learn how it works and understand the processes behind it. Overall, it was a very informative day focused on topics I don’t usually think about. It was a great way to expand my perspective and realize how much time and effort goes into the small conveniences of everyday life.
