Suwon Hwaseong and Samsung Innovation Museum with some shopping fun
Starting the day off with a nutritious breakfast the group is up and in the lobby ready to go at 8:15.
Our first stop today is the historic Suwon Hwaseong. This fortress was constructed in the 1700s and still is standing today. It is a long wall encircling a few buildings and what is now a public park. We entered through the south gate which had a blue dragon mural on the top as the south is guarded by the blue dragon in Korean beliefs. We were even able to try some archery offered near it to simulate when actual guards of the walls would have done. We walked to the Buksumn watergate which had an absolutely gorgeous view of the city. We were then released for some free time to get lunch and walk around the area.

I was able to get an Issac toast sandwich bacon best, a mango icecream, and a small bear cake with chocolate mousse. During our exploration of the neighborhood we followed our tour guide Jinny’s suggestion and went down a street that had some murals on the walls which was so cute! We also saw some cat statues along with a real cat which was a real treat.

Our next stop was a the Samsung Innovation Museum (SIM) where we were able to learn a little bit of history of electronics and the Samsung company. We also saw all their newest technologies including a fridge that tells you what’s in it, crafts recipes from what’s in your fridge, and plays YouTube.

At last we had a traditional Korean dinner in Meyongdong with some Pitt alumni that are at Camp Casey base. The dinner was delicious and before we were even able to dress in hanboks, traditional Korean dresses, which was very fun.
Afterward we were able to explore the Meyongdong market and my pockets are definitely hurting afterward. I was even able to try some street food in the form of viral fluffy pancakes complete with strawberry and Nutella on top.

Only being day 2 I feel like I’ve already been here for a week and the possibilities are endless for what can happen next. Signing off for now and I’ll see you tomorrow with my next update!
