After an early bedtime Sunday night came our first full day in Augsburg. After a hotel lobby breakfast, we headed out to Königsplatz, the main station to board the trams that covered the city streets. The public transportation in Augsburg was fantastic with quick and efficient traveling. The ride was 10 minutes to the University. We arrived and walked through the campus to our first lecture. The campus was very interesting as a student from Pitt. It was built like many American Universities with green areas covering the spaces in between buildings. For being in a city, it didn’t have the same city feel that Pittsburgh does. Our lecture came from a Bloomberg Journalist Will Wilkes. He gave a fascinating presentation on the current state of car manufacturing in Germany. Then we broke off and built presentations for our assigned companies, mine being Audi.
We all had passes for the University Cafeteria and that was an interesting experience. Very similar to Pitts eatery. After the University we walked the town and headed to a Bear Garden, the Riegele brewery. Tasting some of the locally brewed beers was fun. Talking and getting to know the local students here is one of the coolest things we have done so far and I look forward to getting to know more of them as the trip goes on. The picture I chose is me in class before our presentation.
