Day 6: Me in the Mekong

We went to the Mekong Delta today! After a restful night, we boarded the bus at 8:30 where we started off with morning karaoke. After an hour or so ride and a quick stop at a boat station, we arrived at our main boat station where we departed on our main trip. As soon as we arrived it started pouring, but it cleared as we boarded our boats.

On the large boats we crossed the Mekong River and landed in a market area with different shops and places to eat. Our first stop was this bee farm that served delicious honey tea and fried bananas. After a short walk, we then stopped to eat delicious fresh fruit. While eating fresh fruit, the family that owned the place entertained us with some traditional Vietnamese music. It was amazing to see the fresh produce and food that these places are able to produce from the environment.

After that, we took a quick ride by horse carriage to the more narrow pathways where we boarded canoes. It was incredible to see the paths of water and the vegetation that surrounded those paths. After our canoe trip, boated to a water market, where we tried more delicious food and, notably, Vietnamese hotpot. After eating, we went on to some of the local activities including giant air balls in the water, dangling meat above alligators, and feeding fish from sippy cups.

After we finished our activities, we boarded the boat to depart where we finished our tour of the Mekong with coconut drinks and karaoke. This has definitely been the best day yet as I had no idea there were so many cool things to see and do in the Mekong!
