Today I learned about the cement industry, where I actually learned a few things (I know crazy). Driving along the coast and seeing the giant silos in the distance, letting everyone know that Vassiliko Cement Works is the largest heavy industry in Cyprus. We had a great view of all the steps in the cement process, thanks to the informative tour provided by the amazing staff. Vassiliko owns several quarries for the materials used, that being limestone, clay, and gypsum, giving easy access to the necessary materials at any time. With a 60,000 ton silo and three cement mills on site, the vertical integration of the company continues to ensure the creation of the final product is done efficiently and responsibly. Finally, with there own port, that was constructed in 1984 and remains the sole industrial port in Cyprus makes it so that Vassiliko sees every ounce of cement can begin its journey to its destination in a trusted manor. All of this comes together to create a self-reliant company, that does not have majorly affected by extenuating world circumstances. With Cyprus being close to a region of the world known for its inability for stability, the more control Vassiliko puts in itself allows for the streamlined creation of its bread and butter, cement.
