Hi, my name is Aliya! I am a current freshman here at the University of Pittsburgh majoring in bioengineering. In addition to my bioengineering major, I am planning on minoring in mechanical engineering and mathematics. I am from Portland, Oregon. Although I am far from home, I love living in Pittsburgh! On campus I am involved in the Biomedical Engineering Society and the Society of Women Engineers. These clubs have helped me to grow as an aspiring engineer, and meet other future engineers. Outside of class I enjoy reading, spending time outside, hanging out with friends, and eating yummy food (particularly sweet treats!).
I am participating in the Healthcare, Innovations, and Technology program in Spain. I chose this program because the program perfectly captures my interests academically and culturally. As a bioengineering major, my future goal is to engineer solutions for a healthier world. In order to do so, I need skills including global knowledge and cultural awareness. As part of this program I am hoping to build these skills. Being immersed in another culture and learning about their healthcare technologies will be fascinating. In addition to the academic portion, I am also excited to experience and learn about another culture. I love traveling and being immersed in a new culture with different practices and norms. This program will be the perfect opportunity for me to explore a new place, try new food, learn a new language, and have greater cultural understanding!
I am so excited to travel to Spain and start learning!
