Destination: Netherlands

Hi, my name is Maggie and I am from the Philadelphia area. I am a first year student here at SSOE and FHC studying Civil Engineering. I want to use my life to build a greener world for everyone, so I am really excited to learn about sustainability in the Netherlands. While I am here at Pitt, I also plan to minor in economics and earn a certificate in sustainability. Here at Pitt, I am part of the ASCE Technical paper team, French Club, and volunteer at Jubilee Soup Kitchen.

While I am not in school, I live with my Mom, Dad, brother, sister and two parakeets are home. I love going out on my local bike trail and venturing down to the creek. I usually spend my summers working. One of my first jobs was at Wegmans as a cashier, which taught me a lot about being reliable and how to be a good employee. This summer, I am very excited to intern with my county government helping manage the construction of several new municipal buildings! I hope I can take what I will learn in the Netherlands and apply it to making our buildings as sustainable as possible.

I am excited to depart on Pitt Plus3 Netherlands. As a Civil Engineering student, sustainability will be at the forefront of my work. Learning about how to Dutch tackle all aspects of sustainability from the societal to personal level I hope will bring me some valuable insight into how I can make my work more sustainable in the future. In addition, Dutch infrastructure is very well designed, and I am hoping that be being immersed in and observing it, I can take what the Netherlands has done and come up with some ideas for ways to improve infrastructure here in the US. I cannot wait to get started!
