Hi! My name is Allison Mehta, and I am a first-year Nursing student at the University of Pittsburgh! I am from Ellicott City, Maryland, and I have a younger sister named Kara, as well as a dog named Luna, who is a mix of Pit Bull, Golden Retriever, etc. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, watching Modern Family, and participating in anything related to musical theatre. At Pitt, I intend to join the Nursing Student Association (NSA) to meet new people and make my voice heard within our nursing program.
My primary goal is to become a Pediatric Oncology Nurse Practitioner. I have always known that I wanted to work with children, as I spent many years working at summer camps and various theatre programs. The opportunity to make a positive impact on children’s lives has always stayed with me. In high school, I participated in a nursing program that allowed me to earn my Nursing Assistant certification, which solidified my desire to pursue nursing as a career. Nursing provides me with the opportunity to practice compassion and empathy while continuously learning new, and interesting things about the human body.
This summer, I am beyond excited to travel to Birmingham through the Plus3 United Kingdom program! I chose this program because I love traveling and am eager to gain new perspectives on healthcare systems. I am hoping to develop a greater understanding of the differences between the healthcare systems in the United States and the United Kingdom. Additionally, by pairing my nursing major with education, I aim to explore how these systems impact and treat minority populations. Through this experience, I hope to broaden my perspective and become a more socially conscious nurse!
