Pitt Stop to The Sahara

Hey everyone! My name is Xander Murthwaite, and I’m so excited to explore Morrocco in just a week! I’m originally from Liverpool, England, but moved to the States nine years ago. I’m enrolled in the School of Business, studying Finance and Business Analytics. On campus, I’m involved with Panther Equity, Incline Consulting Group, and Phi Beta Lambda.

Outside of the classroom, you’ll usually catch me outside, whether that’s hiking, swimming, playing soccer, or skiing. I also love to watch and debate hockey, soccer, and rugby.

Choosing this program was a no-brainer for me. During summer 2024, I was fortunate enough to solo travel to Costa Rica. Engaging in the local customs and experiencing the culture firsthand was truly eye-opening. Ever since then, I’ve been seeking experiences where I can broaden my worldviews and meet wonderful people in different countries. I can’t think of a better way do that than alongside my peers at Pitt.

Going to Morrocco has always been a dream destination of mine, and I’m especially excited to visit the wonderful cities like Marrakesh, Rabat, and Casablanca. I’ve always wanted to explore Africa and root myself in the North’s rich history. Additionally, having the opportunity to talk to business owners and learn from their experiences is very motivating, and I can’t wait for site visits, especially the Technopark. I’m very grateful to have the opportunity to expand my business mindset globally. I’m also a huge foodie, so I will be fully immersed in the cuisine.

Overall, I’m super excited to make memories I will cherish forever, and I look forward to exploring alongside all of you!
