We finally made it to Greece after 2 flights and not a lot of sleep. The first day was a blast with tours of UNIC Athens, and the Hellinikon. One thing that I learned on these tours was when we learned about Deep Genomics from the CEO of the University of Nicosia. It’s the process of analyzing large amount of bio data to determine relationships and be able to figure out the inner workings of genome interactions. One example of this was lead content in dark chocolate and how that affects people. The coolest part of this was the machine that can create over 18,000 samples a year and costs $1.3 million. This will change my perspective for the rest of my life because I will always think about what could be in the food I’m eating and how genomes interact. In addition to this I will wonder about what isn’t being tracked and how could that affect me later on in life whether good or bad.
