Today we toured Lambda and learned about their hand in the Ellinikon project. During our tour, they taught us how they are modeling the project with BIM (building information modeling), a 3D model of a construction project. BIM takes all the relevant information about a project and compiles it into a single model, which serves as the “truth” for the project. This not only shows the final 3D model but 4D time integration, 5D cost integration, and 6D facility management. These visits will impact my work as a future engineer by showing me the value of a universal pool of information. One of the reasons for the efficiency of this project is due to the fact that BIM helps reduce costs, errors, enhances collaboration, reduces design and construction time, and more. I want to strive to be an engineer who can create this level of connection, communication, and cooperation. I hope to apply what I learned from BIM to future group projects I work on for my career.
