Hi, my name is Meghan Phillips! I am a nursing student and working toward a Global Health Certificate. Here at Pitt, I am an active member of Gamma Sigma Sigma service sorority, Nursing Student Association, and YoungLife. I love serving my community through clubs on campus, and I am looking forward to further serving the overall Pittsburgh community when we begin clinical next semester! In the future, I hope to be a kind and supportive nurse working in the pediatric ICU.
As for my personal life: I am from Lancaster, PA (I am not Amish!). I have three sisters and a sweet Bernese Mountain dog named Bear. In my free time, I love all outdoor actividades, playing different sports, watching dystopian movies like Hunger Games, and hanging out with friends! I also love to travel, so I am extremely grateful and excited for this opportunity to travel to Argentina!
My chosen Plus3 location is the Healthcare Disparities Nursing and Business Plus3 Program in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I chose this program because I have an interest in global health, have never traveled to South America, and am familiar with the Spanish language since I took Spanish for all four years of high school. I hope to gain a new understanding of a private healthcare system outside of the US, as well as the specific nuances of the Argentine culture that affect healthcare accessibility and education. I also hope to gain experience utilizing Spanish in the real world and exploring different cultural sites in the city of Buenos Aires. I am especially excited to watch the tango show and eat traditional foods!
