AlfaOmega Warehouse Tour

on

Today we toured AlfaOmega’s newest warehouses. AlfaOmega is a pharmaceutical logistics company that exports medicine and medical devices throughout Greece and has recently begun exports to Cyprus. Entering the first room, we saw the inbound package area, which contained stations for trucks to unload shipments. It was explained that both the warehouse itself and many pharmaceuticals require stable temperatures, so several measures were in place at the unloading site to maintain appropriate conditions.

At the loading dock, where the back of the truck connects to the building, there was an inflatable sealing mechanism used to close any gaps where outside air could enter. The refrigerated room was also placed close to this area so packages could quickly be moved into colder storage. Specifically, it takes just 22 seconds to transport packages from the truck bed to the refrigerated area.

Moving into the export side of the warehouse, we saw several devices used to pack and move packages, including forklifts and an automatic wrapping machine. We finished our tour in the vehicle charging room, where we saw several parked warehouse vehicles along with the large batteries used to charge them overnight. Throughout the entire visit, the warehouse was very quiet, with the only noise coming from the occasional vehicle driving by.

(it can take 12 years to be forklift certified in Greece)
