The Start Of An Exciting New Journey: A Quick Introduction!

Hi everyone and welcome to the first of a few blog posts about my experience with PLUS 3 over the next 2 weeks! My name is Rohan Krishnan. I am a rising sophomore with intended majors in Finance, BIS, and Economics as well as a certificate in Business Analytics. In addition to participating in the PLUS 3 program over the next 2 weeks, I will be coaching at my local tennis club and conducting research with Dr. Paul Harper regarding corporate reparations.

Here are a few fun facts to get to know me better:

  • I am a huge foodie, my motto is “You can’t judge a dish until you’ve tried it twice!”
  • I am an avid tennis player and regularly keep up with both the men and women’s tours
    •  I currently work as a coach at my local tennis club and I am on Pitt’s Club Tennis Team when I am on campus!
  • My absolute favorite TV show is Avatar the Last Airbender
  • I have played piano, drums, violin, and saxophone over my life and I am currently learning the bass

As I am only a sophomore, my professional goals aren’t too specific. I hope to become an expert and high performer in my future field of work and make a demonstrably positive impact on the world. Additionally, I’d love to start my own company at some point in my professional career, as entrepreneurship is a big interest of mine!

I had decided to participate in the PLUS 3 program after hearing about it during the Haller Global Honors Fellowship. The program itself is an invaluable extracurricular experience for my personal and professional growth. Not only will I be able to meet international students which will greatly expand my perception of the world and of business, but I will also be able to learn from industry professionals and add a valuable project to my professional portfolio.

Personally, I hope to meet new Pitt students as well as new South American students and form relationships that I will keep throughout the rest of my college experience (and beyond!). Additionally, I hope that, through the cultural immersion sessions, I will be able to gain a better understanding of a new culture and different area of the world.

Academically, I hope to gain a better understanding of the healthcare industry from a business perspective. I hope to further develop my team work and leadership skills as my team works through our project. Additionally, I intend to try and apply some of the concepts I have learned from my freshman courses over the duration of the program.

Professionally, I hope to make solid connections with both Pitt and international students that will come in handy in the future. I also hope to further develop my professional portfolio and resume, making me a more desirable choice for future internships.

Overall, I am extremely excited for the next two weeks, and I cannot wait to make new friends, learn about new cultures and industries, and complete a tangible project over the course of this program!
